The 1916 wheat harvest at Forbes

Horse and bullock teams queue to deliver bagged wheat to the Forbes storage, 1916

The 1916 wheat harvest in the Forbes area was the best recorded to that time with almost
half a million bags of wheat delivered to the railway at Forbes. As the horse and bullock teams queue, the Forbes mail arrives with a P (later C32) class locomotive in front.
Another locomotive (far right) waits in the wheat road.

View along the main line to the station with a train at the platform. The original wheat shed is on the left.

Teamsters wait to unload. The southern / western side weighbridge is in the centre of the photograph. The station buildings are behind the wheat stack behind the weighbridge.

The northern / eastern side weighbridge. The station roof can be seen on the left. The gate is the entrance from the Parkes road.

Unloading and stacking bagged wheat

A C class engine and train head out of the station at Forbes, through a canyon formed by bagged wheat stacks.

A queue of horse-drawn wagons, and one traction engine, snakes its way between the goods shed and the loading bank. One of the bagged wheat sheds can be seen at the end of the loading bank.
