View of the loco depot at Parkes from the silos, 1926
Photograph by Roy Hocking
Parkes Loco Depot existed in the location shown from about 1902 until the new Loco Depot
opened in 1944. Following the opening of the new depot in Hartigan Avenue (named after
the Railway Commissioner) the old depot was given over to the servicing and storage of the
Silver City Comet. A second steam shed was built immediately to the left of the one in the
photo in 1928. In the photo there are at least nine locomotives. While the photograph is not good
enough to identify the locos there appear to be a number of 16 class and at least one 24 class.
