View of Parkes yard, looking east from the footbridge, c1925
This photograph forms an interesting comparison with the next, taken 3-4 years later
Although the date of the photograph is uncertain it cannot be earlier than 1925 because of the
"Refreshments" sign, leading to the so-called "elephant tent" temporary refreshment rooms
behind the station. The signal box (lower left corner) and the footbridge from which the photo
was taken were both moved west to allow space for the refreshment rooms. The two small buildings
(one with a gable and supporting the "refreshments" sign, the other the skillion roofed building
next to it) were demolished. The photographs also show changes to the track layout, including
removal of the crossover immediately in front of the stock wagon.
