Loco Cg 404, The first over the Parkes - Peak Hill Section

Cg 404 hauled the first revenue train over the Parkes to Peak Hill section

This heavily retouched 1914 photograph shows driver Charles Stanbury (in cab) and
fireman Arthur Paix with locomotive Cg404 (later 1401) at Parkes Loco Depot. The photograph
was taken to commemorate the opening of the Parkes - Peak Hill section (which completed
the line from Parkes to Narromine). Stanbury, Paix and Cg404 took the first train over
the new section. Although the photo has been retouched, it is obvious that the loco was
cleaned and polished for the photograph. Stanbury went on to become the senior driver at Parkes
and was allocated an engine.
